Unit 6

I feel like I have risen from dead. I have been without my computer for the last three weeks and it has been crazy. I have often wondered for the first time what did we do without them. I felt so disconnected from the world. My email is my main line of communication to family and friends. The Internet is my main portal for information. When I could not connect with school I became very discouraged about my choice of my career and could not stand the fact that I had no control of the matter of contracting this virus to my computer. Since this experience I have learned so much about certain viruses and what to do to prevent them. My son downloaded a program called Lime wire on my computer and it started acting very sick. It always got stuck and we could not even turn it off unless we unplugged it altogether. I have added some antivirus protection to get me the rest of the way. I hope to get a back up computer to eliminate the gap of contact mainly for school. That was a very scarey experience. While I've been waiting on the computer guy, I have been watching a reality show on my topic of teen pregnancy called " Teen Mom". It has been very helpful and has raised all sorts of questions toward this topic. It has become a very interesting conversation piece for my family. I was able to discuss this with my three daughters and observe their opinions on this presentation. There is a girl who gave her baby up for adoption and then became very guilty about it. She is very expressive and verbal with the father and her friends and family. It really gives a birds eye view of what really goes on in her life after making this decision. There are two other girls who are very confused and can't seem to figure what they should be doing now that they are parents. The prematurity of parenthood is hard to understand even if your body is set to make and create a baby. There is a lot to be learned about planning to be a parent and being committed. I have a lot of notes but I have to make sure I cite these words in the right format and by the right person. The show has lead me to specific issues that teenagers face like suicide, running away, and drugs as a way to deal with the pressures of their struggle. These added issues have helped to influence my research to understand why our society has taken such a serious approach to prevent unwanted and teen pregnancies. I am glad to be back on the set and read all your interesting blogs and comments.

unit 5

Greetings Everyone,
I am getting on a computer where I can. I have been able to grab a glimpse and try to study between a chance to get on a computer until my own gets fixed. Hopefully it can be fixed because it caught a bad virus. I have been watching the reality show on Teen Mom which has really helped me take notes and gather my sources. Right now my challenges are to keep up with my assignments and regain my time management skills as I take care of my responsibilities and find where I can use a computer to complete my classwork. School is helping me to challenge myself no matter what the class is or required to complete my degree. I take one day at a time and focus on my checklist and make sure I do my best. It is the best feeling in my day to keep my grades up and passing. I am reinventing myself really after being a full time mom and teaching my children at home. I have no regrets but I do want keep my academic skill sharpened and amaze myself at what I can accomplish. It is a fun feeling as long as I can keep up the work.

Unit 4 post

Hi Class,
Still playing catch up!!! Can you hear me pulling up the rear. I am in this race for the finish even if I finish last at least I will finish. Hope everyone had a great holiday and started the New Year off with a bang. My computer is still in the shop trying to heal from a bad virus. Let's all say a prayer for her revival. She is about 8 years old and getting tired and whats even worst I don't have money to replace her at this time. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for her.
After studying about plagiarism I realize it is very important to cite the sources of information that support mutual ideas. It really helps to justify the points that are being discussed and gives the reader an option to confirm with the originators of the facts given. This act can happen so easily. It is harder to make sure you don't do it than to just cite the source and give the credit. Some think that if you just change the words of researched information or even twist the truth and give wrong information is a form of plagiarism also. I would feel pretty insulted if someone used my information and turned it into their own. Especially if I should be recieving monetary proceeds behind it. People write and get paid for someonelse's work all the time. I read that the writer of the story line to the movie the Matrix, had her work stolen and it had made millions before she was able to regain the credit as her own. The only way she was able to regain her credibility was to have her work copywriten. This should be done by originators of information that support ideas in research. This will help to keep issues down to a minimum. The internet can blur the lines to make sure something is legally owned or not because there is so much of the same information on different sites that compare and so similar and are not cited from the original source as having an author. This will make some put there own name with it and call it their own.
Greetings Class,
I am trying to play catch up. I have encountered a virus on my own computer and I think I am doomed for recovery. It is in the shop as I am trying to catch up. It happen before the holidays. But anyway if anyone happens to look at this blog I do want to comment as instructed by the directions on what it is like to be an online student. When I first started I was terrified because of what I have been use to which is being in a class room setting where I can ask questions as they come to mind. The thought of not having that at my reach was not concievable at all. I felt very out of place in class because I could not see anyone just their words. I began to put faces with everyone even thought I could not see them and this gave me a sense of connection even though I could not give cyberspace any credit. The flexibilty of being at home at the same time I am in class and being able to walk around in my pajamas while class is in session was very weird but it grew on me. I am having to work two jobs now that I am not to fond of and that is why I want to get my degree so I can have other options doing what I love which is good health. I don't have much time. Since I started I have been able to overcome a lot of fear of the online experience. The instructors have been great. I have had some crazy things happen and they all have been very supportive at allowing me to catch up and still make the mark. I would like to be able to connect with the class in study group outside of class. I know this maybe hard for most of us because of our schedules but I think we can be of some great assistance in more ways than we could imagine. I hope to continue this blogging experience even after the class and we can become a community withing a community. Thanks for taking the time to read my notes.

Thanks
Cheryl Taqqee
